Analysis of The Rising Tide, the second and final DLC for Final Fantasy XVI

It’s available on PS5 starting today. Rising tide, the second and final downloadable content for Final Fantasy XVI. A few months ago, in December, Square Enix’s action game released Echoes of the Fallen, its first and brief DLC (if you’re interested, we’ll leave you with our analysis).

And now, with The Rising Tide, Final Fantasy XVI Says Goodbye Forever (surprise aside) with a new adventure in which Akon Leviathan is the main character and which promises to be far superior to the adventure of the first DLC, at least as far as the content itself is concerned.

We’ve been playing since this morning and have already defeated Leviathan, gained his powers, completed side quests, side quests and more, and we’re here to tell you if it’s worth a try.

Analysis of The Rising Tide, the second DLC for Final Fantasy XVI

The tide takes us to Mysidiaa new region located north of Tormentia, adjacent to the famous “frozen wave” seen from Northreach in the main game.

Although it is not a large location and its level design repeats the mistakes of the FFXVI world (that is, it is very simple and flat), this is already an advantage compared to Echoes of the Fallen, which only added a new dungeon.

But the most interesting thing is that for plot reasons, Mysidia escaped the effects of primogenesisa spell that causes the skies of Valistea to turn a dull purple.

Thereby, The visual spectacle that Mysidia leaves us with is one of the positive aspects of this DLC.: We “burned” the capture button in all areas. The frozen wave, always in the background of the action, together with the green of its forests and the crystal blue of the sea and sky give rise to images of extraordinary beauty.

Like Echoes of the Fallen, The Rising Tide also adds new items, including a series of accessories that change the effects of eikonic skills (skills performed with the circle button). For example, Phoenix increases the distance traveled by a fire impulse.

We also find news among enemies where Tombury. These enemies, which are among the most recognizable and iconic in the Final Fantasy saga, were absent from the main story of XVI, but here they return with a darker appearance and sharper knives than ever.

The star addition, however, is Leviathan: Clive gains the powers of his lost eikon while acquiring a new fighting style. Regarding playability, Leviathan is literally a water pistol. which allows us to shoot powerful jets. Additionally, it adds a new evasion that allows you to cover greater distances. As such, it is ideal for a safer playstyle that focuses on ranged attacks.

As for the main plot, The Rising Tide follows the playbook of Echoes of the Fallen: This is an extremely short DLC that can be completed in about two to three hours.

but leaves us with a genuine spectacle of the final fight, once again demonstrating that bosses are Final Fantasy XVI’s strong suit.

By the way, it is clear that they took into account the criticism of the excessive lightness of the main plot, since in In The Rising Tide, we witness the most challenging confrontations in Final Fantasy XVI.. The final boss made us sweat a lot…

Now, in addition to the main story, there are about ten additional side missions that increase the duration. After finishing, Kairos portal, a combat challenge with very interesting rewards. There is also a little surprise that we didn’t expect and which we really enjoyed. In total, and if we do everything that can be done, The tide lasts about 10 hours..

The story is not bad: new characters and everything is new. knowledge which he says are interesting and fit very well with Valistea, which already stood out for its narrative world-building. However, We were very disappointed with Jill’s role..

Shiva’s Dominant was destined to play a prominent role in The Tide, solving the problem of her limited involvement in the main story. However, despite the presence of some moments, in the end she is again given a minor role.

The most disappointing thing is that this was a golden opportunity to delve into her history, her past and her connection to the northern territories, but it was completely missed.

Finally, let us emphasize once again great soundtrack composed by Masayoshi Soken. If you’ve been following Final Fantasy XVI since its announcement, you’ll be pleased to finally hear a certain song that played in one of the trailers…

Is The Rising Tide worth it?

“Tide” is good; We liked it, but some disappointment is inevitable. The main problem is that it promised a lot compared to Echoes of the Fallen, but despite having more content, they are practically on the same level.

The problem is compounded when the price is taken into account: Echoes of the Fallen costs €9.99 and Rising Tide costs €19.99.For our taste, the price is a little high, considering what it includes.

Therefore, our advice is that if Final Fantasy XVI left a good taste in your mouth, you can safely purchase the expansion pack that includes both DLCs for €24.99.

If Final Fantasy XVI doesn’t convince you, Rising Tide is unlikely to change your mind.
