From time to time we have talked about devices for locating objects, one of the most famous is AirTags. In many cases they are useful but useless, but they can also be abused. in the form of unwanted tracking. To help users who may find themselves in situations with these types of characteristics, Apple and Google are joining forces to help those who may find themselves in a compromised situation with these types of objects.

Collaborative Efforts to Ensure Privacy

Apple and Google have jointly created a specification that allows iOS and Android users to receive alerts when The Bluetooth device tracks them without their consent. This advancement aims to prevent the misuse of devices designed to locate personal items. Something we’ve already seen in cases where people want to contact ex-partners.

Compatible on multiple platforms

Apple will offer this feature in iOS 17.5, which you can download now. while Google implements it on devices running Android 6.0 and later. The specification ensures that users will receive alerts such as “You are carrying some object with you” when an unknown Bluetooth tracking device moves with them, regardless of the platform the user is using.

What to do if you receive a warning?

If an iOS user receives an alert, it may mean they are carrying an AirTag, a compatible Find My accessory, or a compatible Bluetooth device. iPhone allows view device ID, call him to find it and get instructions on how to deactivate it. This way the problem will be neutralized. On Android this will work in a similar way.

Manufacturers’ obligations

Manufacturers of Bluetooth search devices such as Chipolo, Yufi, Gio, Motorola and Pebbleby have committed to making their future products compatible with this specification. From the very beginning, AirTags and third-party accessories compatible with the Find My network have been designed with industry-leading privacy and security features in mind.

A milestone in cross-platform collaboration

The collaboration between Apple and Google is an important development that will benefit users. These efforts will users have precise instructions from manufacturers who want to include unwanted tracking alerts in their products. In addition, both companies will continue to work with the Internet Engineering Group to develop a formal standard through a working group dedicated to detecting unwanted trackers.
