Apple Vision Pro: the future is here | Opinion

You’ve probably already seen them in posts on social networks, since many youtubers or technology journalists have already bought or tried them and are publishing their opinions about them. I’m talking about the Vision Pro, a new Apple device that went on sale this week. They cost between $3,499 and $3,899 and are currently only available in the US. In short, these are augmented reality glasses: they look like diving goggles, but with a built-in computer. Thanks to Vision Pro, the company’s announcement says, physical space is combined with virtual space. How? They have a camera system that projects the environment onto an internal screen, meaning you can see what’s going on around you while checking social media, email, a news site, or making a video call or watching a movie in a floating window; and recognizes eye and hand gestures to interact with applications.

Journalist from Washington Post Shira Ovide dedicated it Newsletter (Tech Friend) this week for these device types. He talked about Stanford University’s research into augmented reality glasses: Experts said these devices should be used sparingly and saved for situations where the phone, TV or real life aren’t useful. That is, no consulting, no writing emails, no driving or walking down the street.

“When I first put them on, I was literally speechless,” wrote Pedro Aznar, director apple sphere, in his review of the Vision Pro, He tested the device for a day and posted several videos on X demonstrating its use. “They don’t have the same sharpness as clear glass, but they give us the feeling of wearing glasses with shocking realism and without any significant lag,” he added. He said they are quite heavy – 600 to 650 grams, which can be a lot if we use them for hours – although they do have a top band to make this easier. For him, who has written about the company’s products for nearly twenty years, “this is the most incredible experience I’ve had in the Apple world.”

Another well-received demonstration of use is over 17 million views on the site. In the video, you can see one of the most criticized aspects of this device on social media: the way it represents the user’s face, with an unrealistic and blurry appearance, like an avatar. AND youtuber He does things that the seller’s instructions say he shouldn’t do, such as driving or walking near roads or places with obstacles.

Since it couldn’t be otherwise, netizens comment on their vision of Apple glasses. Some say that, like everyone else, The Simpsons already predicted this and others that are “the latest invention for the ‘zombification’ of humans.” User shared video influential person technologist Nikias Molina while using (for work, he says) the device on the New York subway. The most criticized video in the Twittersphere with comments like: “If home Office This ends the difference between work space and relaxation space, and it will only make every moment work.”

Looking at how these augmented reality glasses are used, I think we have entered a chapter in the series. Black mirror. At the same time, I wonder if we will eventually be able to normalize this and use it all in a few years. Didn’t it seem crazy to us to talk on the phone on the street with almost invisible wireless headphones? Is Vision Pro an example of what we’ll have in the future?
