Consortium of innovative projects Loyalled by a Spanish startup Idoventhanks to the support EIT Healthjust started developing a technological solution for artificial intelligence (AI) in electrocardiograms which can reduce hospitalizations for heart failure by 40% (IC) in Europe.
EIT Health, which is part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an organization of the European Union, has chosen this project, led by the Spanish startup Idoven, with financing 1.7 million euros until the end of 2025. “We promote shared leadership among all our partners and ecosystem agents to enable transformative innovation in Spain and Europe. “We support the Faithful project and the organizations in its consortium because they help us lead the culture of innovation in Spain and because they will make possible significant improvements in healthcare and the health of patients with heart failure,”
explain this Dr. Isabel AlfaniCEO of EIT Health Spain. The project is based on the use of advanced algorithms and artificial intelligence applied to electrocardiograms (ECG) to identify early signs of heart failure in primary care. By providing disease assessment based on ECG results, this innovative approach provides physicians with critical information to make informed treatment and management decisions for patients, allowing them to refer patients to a cardiologist more quickly. The project will employ more than 2500 European patients with risk factors associated with heart failure demonstrate the reliability of their algorithm in early detection of decompensations caused by this disease.
Heart failure in Spain 770,000 people already more than 15 million in Europe. It is also a leading cause of hospitalization in people over 65 years of age and unplanned hospital readmissions. Likewise, research shows that The number of hospitalizations for HF will increase by 50% in the next 25 years.mainly due to the progressive aging of the population and the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia or obesity, among others.
He Dr. Manuel Marina Breiss, cardiologist and CEO of Idovenexplains that “and“This project has the potential to radically change the way heart failure is diagnosed and treated.” This disease is huge costs for health systems due to the difficulty of diagnosing before its manifestation. “In addition, we want to contribute in this way to the sustainability of the healthcare system, improving the health and quality of life of the population,” Add.
“This project reflects our commitment to the forefront of cardiovascular health, highlighting The critical role of digital health and artificial intelligence innovation in reimagining the future of healthcare. As key partners of EIT Health, we are leading efforts to transform healthcare systems in Spain, promoting an approach that combines efficiency, effectiveness and deeply patient-centred care.” emphasizes Dr. Cesar VelascoDirector of Innovation and Digital Strategy, AstraZeneca, Spain.
Faithful was selected by EIT Health in its call for help. Flagships which aims to stimulate the development and implementation of digital health solutions, maximizing the potential of health dataadopt new value-based healthcare models and strengthen the European healthcare industry.
Led by Idoven, the Faithful consortium includes leading healthcare organizations, including AstraZeneca Spain, Madrid Health Service (More
