ISLAMABAD (EFE).- At least five people, including three students, were killed and fifteen injured after a bomb exploded in front of a girls’ high school in western Pakistan this Friday, police said.
“At approximately 9:00 a.m. (4:00 GMT) a bomb exploded in front of a girls’ institute in Mastung.” “Three students who had gone to the institute and two other people, including a police officer, died,” local police officer Naseer Khan told EFE.
“Eleven students and four police officers were injured in the blast,” the agent said. The agent indicated that the bomb was placed on a motorcycle and that its target was a police vehicle passing through the area.
According to Khan, the students were aged between six and fifteen years and were going to school.
So far no armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mastung is located in the volatile province of Balochistan, which has seen a rise in gun violence in recent years.
The province, bordering Afghanistan, is home to several separatist groups who want greater autonomy for the region and have frequently clashed with security forces.
Baloch nationalists argue that the region’s natural resources, such as gas and oil, are exploited for the benefit of other parts of the country, with the people of Balochistan not receiving fair compensation.
In addition to clashes with security forces, attacks against foreign nationals have also increased, particularly against Chinese nationals, and those who work on various projects that Beijing is developing in the region.
