At least 67 injured in Hezbollah drone strike in central Israel

At least 67 people were injured, some seriously, in a Hezbollah drone strike in the Binyamina area, south of Haifa, this Sunday, according to Israeli emergency services. Of the injured, the condition of four is critical, the condition of 5 is serious and the condition of 14 is normal, while the rest have suffered minor injuries.

According to the Al Jazeera television network, Israeli military radio services reported that three people had died in the Binyamina attack. The same sources claim that Hezbollah managed to deceive the Israeli defense system by launching a series of missiles to cover the drone’s advance, which later exploded against the base.

“The army intercepted a drone that was launched from Lebanon towards the northern naval area. Civilians should continue to follow the guidelines of the National Front Command, the army said in a statement. Binyamina is a town between Tel Aviv and Haifa, with approximately 16,000 inhabitants, and is located 70 kilometers south of the border between Israel and Lebanon.

The Shia militia claimed responsibility for the attack this Sunday with a statement in which it assured that it “definitely” attacked a group of Israeli Defense Forces soldiers in the north of the country, as well as a military base in the Golan Is. Israel’s occupation of the heights.

Hezbollah claims it has deployed “a wave of drones” against an Israeli brigade in Binyamina “in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and their brave and honorable resistance, as well as in defense of Lebanon and its people”. The militia has alerted Israeli residents living next to military bases to leave these locations “until further notice”.

Most of the injured were taken to Hillel Yafe Medical Center in Hadera, Haifa district. “The army intercepted a drone that was launched from Lebanon towards the northern naval area. Civilians should continue to follow the guidelines of the Home Front Command,” the Israel Defense Forces explained in a statement.

According to Israeli newspaper HaaretzThe Israeli army is also investigating why the anti-aircraft alarm was not raised after the arrival of the drone.

The event coincides with the United States’ confirmation that it will deploy a THAAD anti-missile shield to Israel, further strengthening the Israeli air defense system known as Iron Dome. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed both the system’s delivery this Sunday and the deployment “to support the defense of Israel and protect Americans in the country from attacks by Iran and militias aligned with the country,” the Pentagon statement says. .
