Atlético Madrid’s stadium will soon be renamed Riyadh Air after signing a contract with the Saudi company worth 250 million euros, which could rise to 300 million through bonuses. The red and white team, in addition to wearing the ad on their jersey, added it to the name of the field and dropped their sponsorship with Civitas. The change represents the largest advertising contract in the club’s history and will run until 2033. With this change, Atlético have now changed the name of the stadium they play in three times since old Vicente Calderon left.
Metropolitano debuted in 2017 and took the name of the Chinese company Wanda, which owned part of the club’s shares. This contract was for five years, and in 2022 it was the developer Cívitas who accepted the change in advertising, which in principle was signed until 2032. The new red and white fiefdom cost the club 330 million, and with this commitment to the Saudi airline, it will be able to almost amortize this cost. This new agreement is a major economic boost for Atlético Madrid, which continues to recover after recording revenues of €403 million last season.
The Rojiblancos played their first match on September 17, 2017 against Malaga under Wanda’s signature. He played with Civitas against Villarreal and the new stadium name could make its debut after the international break when Atlético face Leganes on Sunday, October 20 at 16:15.
