Moscow/Kazan (EFE).- The Turkish government indicated that “with great probability” the attack on a military aeronautical factory in Ankara, which caused five deaths and 19 injuries this Wednesday, was the work of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). .
“We are still working on identifying the terrorists and their fingerprints. As soon as we have the results, we will announce which organization was behind the attack,” Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told reporters in Ankara.
“But evaluating the images we believe it is probably the PKK,” he said, referring to the two youths, a man and a woman, armed with assault rifles who were killed in the attack.
Some time ago, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Güler had held the PKK responsible for the attack.
However, Yerlikaya stressed that guerrilla responsibility had not yet been firmly established and that results on the identification of the attackers should be awaited.
The attack began at 13:25 GMT on Wednesday, when at least two men arrived in a taxi at the gate of the Tusas factory on the northern outskirts of Ankara.
In addition to the two attackers, five people were killed and 19 were injured in the attack, two of them seriously.
According to NTV, among the dead are a security guard and two technicians, while the fourth will be the driver of the taxi by which the attackers arrived at the factory, the information has not yet been officially confirmed.
Today explosions and gunfire occurred at the entrance of the TUSAS Company factory in Ankara, which is dedicated to the manufacturing of military aircraft, helicopters and military aeronautical materials.
A large number of police, as well as firefighters and ambulances rushed to the scene and according to the NTV radio station, gunfire continues inside the factory.
Media indicate that factory workers are headed to shelters and there are reports that some have been taken hostage.
The CNNTürk network assured that the attackers arrived at the factory in a taxi and at least one blew himself up at the door while others managed to reach the premises.
Local media say authorities have sent special units to the scene by helicopter.
TUSAS develops and manufactures some of the most prestigious military aircraft in the Turkish weapons program, such as the Kan fighter-bomber, which is still in the pipeline, the Hurjet training aircraft or the Hurkas light aircraft.
