Austin Butler’s kiss with Stellan Skarsgard in Dune 2 was improvised

Austin Butler confirmed in an interview with Access Hollywood that his kiss with co-star Stellan Skarsgård in Dune: Part Two was improvised on his behalf. The kiss between Butler’s Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Skarsgård’s Baron Vladimir Harkonnen is unexpected and creepy since the characters are nephew and uncle, but it confirms Feyd-Rautha’s devotion to her uncle and deep desire to be him. That’s why Butler imitated Skarsgård’s voice, creating his own accent for Feyd-Rauta.

“(Kiss) with Stellan Skarsgård? “Oh yes!” Butler said when asked about improvising at this point. “He’s ready for anything. “He’s the best… it’s always about how you try to influence someone else.”

Skarsgard tent Diversity that playing alongside Butler in Dune: Part Two was quite fun. “I laughed so hard because it was so obvious that he really enjoyed being evil,” the actor said.

While Butler became infamous for his method acting thanks to his three-year transformation into Elvis Presley for his Oscar-nominated role in Elvis, he changed things up significantly to bring the psychopathic Feyd-Rautha to life.

“I’ve definitely been in the past with ‘Elvis’ exploring life in this world for three years, and that’s the only thing I think about day and night,” Butler told the Los Angeles Times. “As for Feyd, I knew it would be harmful to my family and friends.”

“I made a conscious decision to set a boundary,” Butler continued. “It allowed more freedom between the action and the editing because I knew I was going to be protecting everyone else outside of the context of what we were doing. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t creep into your life. But I knew I wasn’t going to do anything dangerous beyond that boundary, and that allowed me to go deeper.”

Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve added: “When the camera was on, it was like being possessed. When the camera was off, you were still 25 or 30% Fade. Enough to be present and focused, but detached enough so you don’t kill anyone on set.”
