Biden’s statements about Trump that the White House later tries to qualify

The controversy surrounding comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s racist comments about Puerto Ricans has led to a showdown between the White House and Donald Trump’s campaign over whether President Joe Biden insulted his followers. In a virtual event with Voto Latino, Biden appeared to call the magnate’s followers “trash,” though the White House was quick to clarify.

“The other day, Biden started by calling Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of garbage,’ a speaker at his rally, and that’s where, the current problem started. “They are good, decent and respectful people. The only garbage I see floating around is his supporters. “Their demonization of Latinos is unimaginative and un-American,” Biden continued in a raspy voice and with some stammering that interrupted his sentences.

The President’s statements, and the discussion about who he was referring to, represent a lifeline that Republicans will not hesitate to use. While the Democrats find themselves facing a new problem less than a week before the election. Harris has crafted a narrative throughout the campaign in which she has extended her hand toward Trump’s followers and at no time has she sought to attack them.

This strategy is based on a mistake that Democrats learned from Hillary Clinton in 2016, who called Trump’s followers “deplorables.” Some such statements for which the Democrats later had to apologize and it cost them a lot. Now, with Biden’s mistake, the fear of a repeat of the same situation is on the table.

Biden’s flaws and mistakes are nothing new. In recent years, they had grown increasingly so and it was actually they who created all the pressure on him to resign as a presidential candidate. However, even with Biden out of the race, it seems that Democrats cannot avoid this kind of controversy.
