Boeing announces layoffs of 17,000 employees. The American giant is reeling in the midst of a historic crisis

Boeing is not in the best shape. The American aerospace giant announced this. will cut 17% of its workforcewhich equates to 17,000 jobs, according to CNBC. The company will also make “difficult decisions,” including delaying the delivery of its first 777X aircraft by one year and ending production of the commercial 767 Freighters program in 2027.

The news comes as Boeing is still trying to rebuild its reputation for quality and safety following fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019 involving the 737 Max 8, as well as an incident earlier this year in which a 737 Max 9 lost door lock in flight. But these are not your only problems at the moment.

The historic Virginia manufacturer faces a strike of more than 30,000 workers that will affect the production lines of three of its aircraft. At the same time, a surprise third-quarter earnings report suggests that there will be losses

in both commercial and defense aviation.

“Our business is in a challenging position, and it is difficult to overstate the challenges we face together,” Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said in an internal statement Friday. In the text, he added that the announced structural changes are aimed at making the company competitive again and satisfying its customers.

Job cuts, which we have seen number in the thousands, will reach positions executives, managers and employees. At the time of writing this article, there is no further information about this. What we do know is that the announcement impacted the company’s share price, with shares falling 1.87%. after closing.
