TACLOBAN CITY – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos has approved the establishment of medical courses in Catarman, northern Samar.
The move aims to provide students in the province with the opportunity to continue their medical education to improve healthcare services in the area.
The establishment of the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) College of Medicine was achieved through the signing of Republic Act No. 11972 by the Executive Director.
This decision was approved by Congress on February 22 of this year.
The President signed the protocol on December 28.
The Doña Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation currently offers medical programs throughout Eastern Visayas.
Northern Samar Governor Edwin Onchuan welcomed the introduction of a medical program in UEP.
He believes more Northehannon residents will decide to pursue a medical degree because they won’t have to travel out of province to get one.
“By responding to our human resource needs in the healthcare sector and upgrading our healthcare facilities with the necessary infrastructure and equipment, we hope to improve the delivery of healthcare services to our fellow Northehanons,” he said in a press release on Thursday, December 28.
Information Director of the Northern Samara Region Ian Allen Berbon said that the implementation of the medical program in the UEP could begin next year.
He added that there are only a few paperwork and other requirements to complete before starting the program.
