This Wednesday, British police launched an extensive search and capture operation for the alleged killer of three women aged 25, 28 and 61 at his home in the town of Bushey, which is part of the metropolitan area of London. The fugitive, identified as 26-year-old Kyle Clifford, has a crossbow and authorities suspect he used that weapon to kill the three victims.
The crime scene is the home of John Hunt, a well-known radio commentator of horse racing who works for the BBC, who has three daughters. As confirmed by the network itself, the victims of the attack are the commentator’s wife, Carol Hunt, and their two daughters.
Currently, a licence is not required to obtain crossbows in the UK. It is estimated that there are between 250,000 and 300,000 in circulation.
“Our aim is to protect the safety of citizens and locate Clifford, who is being pursued in connection with the murder of three women, which we believe to be a premeditated crime,” said Hertfordshire County Police Superintendent John Simpson. Authorities believe the alleged attacker had the intention to kill the three victims. “Police officers and search and trace specialists are taking part in the pursuit in response to a horrific incident in which we believe a crossbow has been used, although other weapons have not been ruled out,” Simpson summarized.
The officer has made a direct appeal to the alleged attacker to contact police via 999 and surrender.

According to information from police, the crime took place at around 7pm on Tuesday (8pm Spanish peninsular time). A neighbourhood witness told PA Media how he heard “screams like children, then something like a loud scream, and then what was clearly a woman’s scream.” Several police cars gathered around the house shortly afterwards and officers ordered neighbours to stay inside their homes.
The search for Clifford was launched in the early hours of Wednesday and armed agents searched all the houses near the crime scene one by one.
The new interior minister, Yvette Cooper, keeps informed about the development of the operation. “The deaths of three women in Bushey last night are shocking,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I ask citizens to support Hertfordshire Police with all the information they have,” she added.
