At the center of the web that Getafe created and dominated for much of the match, Ante Budimir rescued Osasuna a point with a goal that matched Bertug Yildirim’s in a 1-1 draw to deny both teams two wins contract.
Budimir does not need much space to produce oil; It also doesn’t mean that his team plays good football or that he lives in the weeds created by his opponent. The Croatian, in a tenth of a second and in one moment of danger, is able to score points for Osasuna, who trusted their second highest scorer in history to avoid defeat at the Coliseum.
Buoyed by Barcelona’s 4-2 thrashing, Osasuna had to completely reinvent themselves to survive one of their toughest exits of the season. With three points, he could have finished Saturday in the Champions League positions, but he had to end a period that lasted 16 years, time that has passed since he achieved his only historic victory at the Coliseum.
Vicente Moreno changed almost nothing. He removed Juan Cruz from the left flank to set up Abel Bretones. Getafe practically emulated the Osasuna coach and did not move a single piece, thanks to which it won its first victory of the season over Alaves last weekend (2-0). Both technicians believed that what works is always better left alone.
But Getafe is not Barcelona. They leave no room and, despite their position at the bottom of the table, are one of the most reliable teams in defense. They had barely scored six goals before the match, the same as Real Madrid and only worse than Atlético, who had four. Without a big offensive team like the one he had last season, Bordalas decided to become stronger on defense.
Azulona’s coach is constantly looking for formulas to find a solvent team to compete with, and Osasuna has been unlucky in finding a team that, after nine days and many doubts, seems to have already found the key. Little by little, he combined his defensive efficiency with an improved attack, and the Navarrese team suffered greatly.
In fact, in the first half, the goal defended by David Soria was never disturbed. Only Brian Zaragoza, the differential player, did the trick, albeit off-balance very far from the penalty area, without danger for Getafe, despite the difficulty of stopping the street striker and whose efforts always deserve applause in an overly modern football.
Getafe, well armed at the back, began to eat away at the opponents until, after a quarter of an hour, they had completely taken control of the game. And although he had no chance, he was hardly needed to end the tie on the scoreboard. It starred Alex Sola and Bertug Yildirim, who scored the first goal of the season for Bordalas’ side after five set plays.
The former, with a good run down the left flank, put in a good cross for the Ottoman striker, who with a superb header won position over Enzo Boyomo to make his debut in his new shirt. His strike was enough to bring Bordalas’ side, who went into the break with a golden goal, closer to a second victory.
To beat Getafe when they are leading the scoreboard is a miracle. If in equal conditions he becomes strong, then with a needy opponent he tends to be ruthless. And, moreover, he left the locker room very tense, in order to put an end to the uncertainty on the scoreboard as soon as possible. He succeeded thanks to a chance from Alex Sola, who, after a corner, fired a shot from the penalty area into the body of Sergio Herrera.
And then, with Osasuna at its worst, Ante Budimir seemed to produce oil out of nowhere. The Croatian striker took advantage of one of the few defensive loopholes left by Getafe and sent the match back to square one with a millimeter left-footed shot inside with half an hour remaining.
In it, the changes benefited Osasuna. Borja Mayoral, who appeared after the break, managed to intimidate Vicente Moreno’s team before Budimir appeared. The Croatian’s goal and the introduction of Moncaiola and Raul Garcia turned the situation around, and Getafe took a step back and had to bite the bullet to hold on to the draw.
The reality is that the Bretons, with a senseless shot into the air, were the only ones who were able to tip the scales. From distance he knocked the ball up and forced Soria to work hard to save. The possible return of Osasuna, which was left without a Champions League prize but survived in the Coliseum thanks to the almost isolated performance of its goalkeeper Ante Budimir, has died down.
