Calls to X are enabled by default and show your IP

Social network

All X accounts, whether they have a subscription or not, can make and receive voice and video calls, a new form of communication found in Direct Messages.

However, this new feature is activated by default and shows the IP address of the device connected to the Internet, as seen in the new security options added to the Privacy and Security section of Direct Messages.

Specifically, those who already have access to calls and video calls may see a toggle on both iOS and Android that enables them by default, but which the user can disable.

X Corp clarifies that the ability to make and receive calls is limited to contacts with whom the user has exchanged messages via private messages, in order to limit spam or unwanted calls.

However, you can also set that calls can be made to all contacts, only to verified users, only to people the user follows (the default setting), or only to people who are in his contact book.

There is also another toggle called “Enhanced Call Privacy” that is disabled by default, and when enabled, “prevents the IP address from being revealed” to the other person during a call.

That is, by default, the new X calling feature appears turned on for people the user follows, and call privacy is turned off.
