The second week is about to begin WimbledonThe third Grand Slam tournament of the 2024 season will be remembered as the last one in which one of the legends of British tennis competed. Andy Murray played his last matches in All of England and although he was unable to compete in the singles tournament after undergoing surgery for a cyst on his back, he competed in the doubles with Jaime, his brother and a young star. Emma Raducanu.

Quite, His success in the world’s premier grass court tournaments was affected by his sudden retirement.. Before being eliminated in the round of 16 of the individual tournament by New Zealand’s Sun, Raducanu says he won’t play his mixed doubles match against Andy Murray due to physical discomfort.

The 20-year-old, who rose to fame after winning the 2021 US Open, explained that she was introduced “wrist stiffness” and, to protect himself from playing in singles, withdrew from the second round match, which caused disappointment to Murray and his team, since playing in mixed doubles with the tennis player was a way for him to stay in his career in his last experience at Wimbledon.

The situation was highlighted by Murray’s mother, Judy, who left several messages on her social media expressing anger at Raducanu’s sudden decision. The first of these was a response to TV presenter Marcus Buckland, who commented: “Amazing news that Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray. She mentions pain in her right wrist. This means Murray has played his last match at Wimbledon. Ouch!”– the commentator wrote.

To which Judy replied mysteriously: “Yes, amazing.”The reaction showed the frustration of Murray’s team, but also opened up a discussion about digital platforms.

To make matters even more complicated, Murray’s mother shared on her Instagram account. Instagram quote from British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) which highlights a previous comment from Murray’s former mixed doubles partner Serena Williams during Wimbledon in 2019: “Playing mixed doubles with you was one of the highlights of my life. “I am very grateful to have had that experience.”

After seeing the post, several followers interpreted that Judy had indirectly criticised Raducana, escalating the conflict between the British tennis legend and the young woman that flared up a few years ago and was then sidelined by a series of injuries.

Faced with a wave of criticism and comments, Judy closed his X account (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday afternoon, but changed it back to public shortly after. Seeking to clear the air, he posted another message on Sunday morning: “I’m not sure anyone understands sarcasm these days. I’m pretty sure the scheduling (fourth match on Court 1 singles the next day) will play a big part in the decision.”“,” he wrote, implying that his irritation was directed more at the Wimbledon organization than at the tennis player.

After his decision, Raducanu spoke about his withdrawal from the mixed doubles and at the last minute convincingly stated the reason for his withdrawal: “The plan for this event was not perfect. “I just walked off the court and found out.”– explained the British racket. It should be noted that the match that Raducanu and Murray were going to play against Marcelo Arevalo-Zhang Shuai was scheduled for the last shift on Saturday on Court 1, with an approximate start time of 20:00.

It is believed that this influenced Raducanu’s decision to withdraw to protect her fitness ahead of her match with Lulu Sun on Sunday. In that context, the woman, who was born in Toronto, Canada, but lives in Bromley, trained with a wrist brace ahead of the match that would determine her elimination from Wimbledon.

“Of course I didn’t want to take his last match away from him, but at the end of the day, a lot of players in similar situations would do something similar,” added the young tennis player, who when asked how Murray made the decision to retire from doubles, said: “Obviously he was disappointed because it was his last game. Hopefully I can play in the Olympics and say goodbye there again.”.
