CSIC thanks the Insurance Company for its contributions to science during the pandemic.

President of the Supreme Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), Eloisa del Pinogranted this Tuesday to the President Unespa, Mirenchu ​​Shan Valley, CSIC Medal for the Advancement of Science in recognition and gratitude to the 107 insurers promoting the Insurance Solidarity Fund, which allocated 7 million euros to CSIC to fund research projects related to Covid 19.

Unespa remembers that it was these 107 related organizations that launched the project. Be prepared (to be safer) as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and they have established a solidarity fund with the aim of making a financial contribution to the development of “a culture of prevention and raising awareness of the importance of solidarity to overcome the crisis.”

CSIC was one of the institutions supported by the Unespa Foundation, in this case for financing of technologies and preclinical and clinical research against illness.

At the award ceremony, the President of the CSIC, an organization dependent on the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, emphasized the great importance of Unespa’s contribution to the promotion of scientific projects related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Covid 19, which the CSIC is developing in the midst of the pandemic.

In its turn, Mirenchu ​​del Valle stressed that “the health crisis has highlighted the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations. CSIC’s donation is part of the insurance sector’s commitment to helping prevent and mitigate risks like those we faced four years ago.

At the medal presentation ceremony, CSIC Vice President of Innovation and Transfer Ana Castromoderated the round table Finding solutions to combat the Covid 19 pandemic. Researchers such as Luis Enjuanesfrom the National Center for Biotechnology, who commented on his experience developing a vaccine against this disease from the first person, or Martha Gutierrezfrom the Institute of Medicinal Chemistry, who mentioned the discovery and development of new antiviral drugs against coronaviruses.
