De Ligt condemns ‘disgraceful’ offside in Bayern relegation

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has said the flag bearer has apologized to him for a late offside call during the German side’s Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel, Bayern Munich’s technical director, said the flag bearer had apologized to him for a late offside call during the German side’s Champions League semi-final exit to Real Madrid on Wednesday, with Bavaria defender Matthijs De Ligt calling the flagging a “disgrace”.

De Ligt thought he had equalized in stoppage time when the ball fell to him in the Madrid area and he finished off the game, but center referee Szymon Marciniak had already stopped play for offside. The match ended minutes later with a spectacular 2-1 win over Madrid, allowing them to reach the final 4-3 on aggregate.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Tuchel said: “It was a disastrous decision by the linesman and referee. In the end, this decision almost feels like a betrayal. It was a great fight, we left everything on the field. There”. We arrived. Now we need to congratulate Real Madrid,” he said first.

“The linesman apologized… The referee is not obliged to punish: he sees that we won the second ball, he sees that we got a long shot,” he added. “Whistling is a very, very bad decision. It’s against the rules and it’s a bad decision for both of us. It’s a disaster that’s hard to accept, but that’s the way things are.”

After the match, De Ligt stated that the referee did not give Bayern the same opportunity as Madrid, pointing to Joselu’s winning goal, which was ruled offside after the goal was scored and was later ruled out by the video assistant referee (VAR).

“I think we all know the rules. If the offside is not obvious, you need to continue playing! This rule is! This confuses me a little. Joselu’s goal was also almost offside, and they continue in the same spirit.” “We’re playing, so why not with us?” De Ligt said.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti dismissed Bayern’s complaints in his post-match press conference. He noted that his team had Nacho Fernandez’s equalizer canceled out by a push from Joshua Kimmich, who “jumped into the game,” Ancelotti said.

“The game is pretty clear, the linesman raised the flag, the referee blew his whistle and we stopped,” Ancelotti said. “If they complain about that, we can complain about Nacho’s disallowed goal because Kimmich jumped, they both pushed each other.”
