Departure, starring Saoirse Ronan, will open the Edinburgh International Film Festival

Based on the memoir of the same name by Amy Liptrot, directed by Nora Fingscheidt (System failure), Outran will open the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Saoirse Ronan stars in and co-produces the project. The film had its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Outran It stars Ronan as a young woman who finds herself at home on the Scottish islands of Orkney trying to rebuild her life after recovering from addiction.

Director Liptrot and producer Ronan will attend EIFF 2024 along with writer Amy Liptrot and producers Sarah Brocklehurst and Dominic Norris.

The film was developed and produced by Brock Media’s Sarah Brocklehurst, Arcade Pictures’ Dominic Norris, Ronan and Jack Lowden, with support from BBC Film and Screen Scotland.

Protagonist Pictures arranged the financing, with Luann Gower, Janina Vilsmeier, George Hamilton and James Pugh executive producing alongside Claudia Youssef for BBC Film, Kieran Hannigan for Screen Scotland and Maria Logan and Anne Sheehan for MBK Productions.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival runs from 2 to 25 August. Outran

will be released in Irish cinemas on September 27, 2024.
