Diego Forlan loses in his professional tennis debut

Montevideo (EFE).- Former Uruguayan footballer Diego Forlán and Argentinean Federico Coria lost 6-1, 6-2 in their doubles debut at the Uruguay Open against Bolivians Boris Arias and Federico Ceballos.

The duo from Rio de la Plata, who monopolized the applause and cheers of the local crowd who filled the stands at the Carrasco Tennis Club in Montevideo to see the two-time Golden Boot winner, suffered a heavy defeat from the duo who won comfortably.

The tournament, which began in 1998, has had notable participation throughout its history including Argentines Guillermo Coria, David Nalbandian, Juan Martin Del Potro and Diego Schwartzman; Spaniard Thomas Ventura; and Brazilian Tomaz Bellucci, winners of different years.

Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas is the only tennis player to win the title three times (2009, 2014 and 2017).
