Digi is looking for a new ally to launch its mobile network in Spain

Digi is almost ready to achieve its goal of creating its own mobile network in Spain. First was the purchase of the 60 MHz frequency from MásMóvil and Orange so that the merger with MásOrange could be completed. It then came to sell part of its fiber network in Spain for €750 million and is now looking for a new ally. expand your mobile network.

The Romanian operator was moving step by step towards realizing its idea of finally launching its own mobile network in our country. Thus a new possible agreement has arisen between Digi and Sellnex. This alliance could be a great opportunity for this company to become a low-cost tower operator in Spain.

The infrastructure responsible for Cellnex?

Digi wants to secure its position as the fourth operator in Spain. What is clear, though, is that the merger of Orange and MásMóvil has not stopped new opportunities emerging in the telecommunications sector of our country. Last? Possible alliance between Cellnex and Digi. The Romanian operator may soon become a new long-term client of this company.

Negotiations between both companies have already begun and it is a reality that the Romanian operator may be interested in creating more modest own infrastructureas most of the coverage will continue to be provided by Movistar or the roaming agreement it will sign in the coming months with MásOrange.

Marco Patuano himself, CEO of Cellnex Telecom, even said last Thursday in front of analysts that various negotiations are already underway with the Digi team. All with the aim of this company becoming a provider of physical infrastructure, such as towers and their associated management, to implement the deployment of its own mobile network: “In order not to lose frequencies, they they should use them

; This means they will enter into “sharing” agreements and some places“The CEO explained. However, he also made it clear that the low-cost airline’s final decision has not yet been made.

60 MHz you should take advantage of

The Romanian operator was looking to generate significant revenue and achieved this investment by selling part of its own fiber in Spain. Thus, Digi has the opportunity to both finance purchase 60 MHz (which amounted to 120 million euros), as well as the opportunity to continue betting on expansion plans in our country. It should be taken into account that the spectrum is in the middle ranges: 2 packs of 10 MHz in the 1.8 GHz range, two packs of 10 MHz in the 2.1 GHz range and 20 MHz in the 3.6 GHz range.

The next step is to find the partner you need to run your own mobile network, and it looks like Cellnex might be the company of choice. In any case, it remains to be seen whether Digi will continue to use Movistar mobile network

, as has been happening in recent years at the national level. However, this agreement runs until 2026, so there is still time for the low-cost operator to make a move and make a final decision.
