Documents revealed on Trump’s role in attack on Capitol

Washington (EFE).- A federal court in Washington published this Friday thousands of documents regarding the investigation by special prosecutor Jack Smith in the case that investigated the role of former President Donald Trump in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Does.

In a ruling issued Thursday night, Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected a request by the Republican leader’s legal team to keep the documents secret until after the Nov. 5 election, in which Trump is seeking a second term as president.

What do the documents find about Trump and the Capitol?

The more than 2,000 documents, mostly with redacted elements, include Trump’s posts on the social network X, as well as documents prepared by the former president’s lawyer and former adviser John Eastman.

That day, about 10,000 people – the majority of whom were Trump supporters – marched to the headquarters of Congress and about 800 entered the building while Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election was being certified, it was believed. There were a total of five deaths and approximately 140 officers were injured in that attack.

The former president is the subject of an investigation into allegations of conspiring to disrupt Biden’s victory following the election.

The documents are part of Smith’s effort to direct the case after the Supreme Court issued a ruling ensuring Trump enjoys “partial” immunity for crimes he may have committed while serving as president. .

Following the Supreme Court’s decision in July, the court ordered Chutkan to analyze the allegations against the former president and decide which charges were not justified due to the new immunity rules.

Smith filed a new indictment on August 27, retaining the four previous charges against him, such as conspiracy to obstruct official proceedings, but reducing the charges in line with that ruling.
