Donald Trump announces deal for debate with Kamala Harris on September 10 | USA Elections

There will be a debate. Or so it seems. The doubts raised on Sunday by an ambiguous message from Donald Trump and a scuffle between the Republican’s campaign and that of the Democrat Kamala Harris are beginning to be dispelled. The former president himself has published a message on his network, Truth Social, in which he assures that he has reached an agreement for the Philadelphia debate organized by the ABC network, which will have the same rules as the confrontation against Biden on June 27 in Atlanta, organized by CNN. Kamala Harris’s campaign has not confirmed the agreement at the moment.

“I have reached an agreement with the Radical Left Democrats for a debate with Comrade Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote. Trump refers to his opponent this way because he accuses her of being a communist without basis. “It will be broadcast live on ABC Fake News, by far the most obnoxious and unfair news network in the area, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, September 10th,” he added, repeating his criticism of the said television channel’s bias towards her.

“The rules will be the same as the last CNN debate, which probably works well for everybody except for the corrupt Joe Biden,” added Trump, who gave his political rival this nickname despite being a convicted felon, among 34 crimes of lying, also convicted of civil fraud with his businesses, defamation and sexual abuse, and who is accused of dozens of other crimes that he has tried to obstruct to buy time.

Biden went into the June 27 debate alone because of his performance. It was his team that asked that there be no audience and that the microphones be turned off for candidates who were not enjoying their turn. He wanted to avoid the constant interruptions that characterized the 2020 debates, a rule that ultimately worked in Trump’s favor, as it made him appear more content and accommodating. But Biden’s failure had nothing to do with those rules, although surely a few notes (also forbidden) would not have hurt him.

“The debate will be ‘rehearsed,’ and candidates will not be able to bring notes or ‘cheat.’ ABC has also assured us that this will be a ‘fair and equitable’ debate and that no side will receive questions in advance,” Trump said in his message.

The Harris campaign already agrees with all of these points, except for keeping microphones off for those who are not speaking. “Trump’s handlers prefer to mute microphones because they do not believe their candidate can act like a president for 90 minutes on his own,” Harris campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said in a statement Monday. The candidate is “ready to confront Trump’s constant lies and interruptions in real time.” Trump must stop hiding behind the mute button, he added.

Following Trump’s message, the Harris campaign has insisted there was a disagreement regarding the microphone, but it does not seem that this will be enough to avert a confrontation, the only confirmed one between the two candidates at the moment.

Trump offered another exchange on the conservative Fox network for September 4, but the Harris campaign rejected it, as it was not the one that had initially been agreed upon between Republicans and Democrats. “That date remains open if she changes her mind or opinion, as she has done in every single one of her political beliefs,” Trump attacked in his message, saying that “this date has not been agreed upon by the radical left,” according to NBC Fake News.

Harris gives his first interview

The Trump campaign has repeatedly accused Harris of going into hiding for not giving any press conferences or interviews since President Joe Biden dropped his bid for a second term and endorsed her on July 21.

The Democratic candidate assured that she will set one before the end of this month and finally it will take place on Thursday in prime time on CNN. The peculiarity is that she will not give it alone, but will be accompanied by vice presidential candidate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as reported by the news channel.

The interview, conducted by CNN’s chief political correspondent and anchor Dana Bash, will air Thursday at 9 p.m. ET, Friday at 3 a.m. ET in mainland Spain.
