earn seven times more and triple your income

US chipmaker Nvidia announced this Wednesday a net profit of $14,881 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, seven times more than the same period last year, thanks to the artificial intelligence (AI) boom.

The tech major, which posted long-awaited results at the Wall Street close, also reported billings rose 262% to 26.044 million, led by its data center segment, which posted record revenue (22.563 million). .

The company’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement that the “next industrial revolution” has begun, in which traditional data centers are being transformed to “produce a new commodity: artificial intelligence.”

Huang attributed the growth of Nvidia’s data center, which has quintupled its revenue, to strong demand for Nvidia’s Hopper GPU, which specializes in language model training, recommendation systems and generative AI applications.

With the company riding the crest of an artificial intelligence wave, the executive foresaw the “next wave of growth” for its latest innovation, the Blackwell Compute Platform, a new high-performance graphics chip that is “in full production and forming the foundation.” generative AI” on a large scale.

Nvidia’s processors play a key role in powering the cutting-edge technologies of “Big Tech” such as Google, Microsoft and OpenAI, artificial intelligence competitors that have, however, mentioned the Huang-led firm as an ally in their latest product presentations.

Nvidia’s other business segments are residual relative to data centers: Gaming, number two, brought in $2.647 million (up 18% year over year); “Professional Visualization” brought in 427 million (45% more), “Automotive” — 329 million (11% more).

The results did not mention China, one of its main markets, while doubts were raised about the impact of US trade policy as Washington imposed restrictions on the export of advanced chips for Nvidia AI technology to the Asian giant.

As the company’s explosive growth continues, so do its operating expenses, albeit at a much slower pace: they totaled $3.497 million, or 39% more.

“Split” and increase in dividends by 150%

Nvidia also announced that it will split its common stock on June 7 “to provide employees and investors with easier access to their ownership.” The company, the third-largest listed company in the United States with a capitalization of $2.38 trillion, also announced it would increase its quarterly cash dividend by 150%, from $0.04 per share to $0.10 per common share.

Such a “separation,” the company clarified, will be carried out by changing the company’s charter, which will lead to a proportional increase in the number of authorized ordinary shares. Thus, each common shareholder at market close on Thursday, June 6 will receive nine additional shares of common stock, which will be distributed after the market closes on Friday, June 7, the chip maker explained. This dividend, equivalent to $0.01 per share after the split, will be paid on Friday, June 28th to all shareholders of record on June 11th.

In the second quarter, the firm forecasts revenue growth of almost $28 billion.

Nvidia’s quarterly results beat analysts’ expectations, and Wall Street’s first reaction was to receive them this Wednesday, with shares rising more than 7%, pushing them above $1,000 per share. Everything suggests that tomorrow, when the market opens the session, the movements will continue.
