Enhancing mobility and security at the America’s Cup opening ceremony.

Tomorrow, Barcelona City Council will strengthen traffic and security facilities for the opening ceremony of the America’s Cup sailing event, which will take place on Mar Bella beach.

The city council recommends using public transport, especially the metro, to visit the Barcelona show, a beacon in the world. TMB will strengthen the metro service by increasing the number of trains on L4 by 40% compared to weekdays, as well as increasing the number of staff at seaside stations. In addition, more vehicles or vehicles of higher capacity will be added to the bus lines operating near Bogatell Beach.

The city police will deploy the device to ensure that the show takes place with guarantees of traffic safety, citizen safety and civility.

Those attending the ceremony, which will begin at 9 pm, are advised to plan their travel in advance and seek better alternatives with priority use of public transport, which the TMB will intensify in anticipation of a large influx of people. The metro will operate until 12 midnight as usual.

Maintenance, security and cleaning staff will also be reinforced at the stations closest to the promenade, such as Barceloneta, Ciutadella/Vila Olimpica, Bogatell, Llacuna, Poblenou (all on L4), as well as at the Urquinaona interchange (L1 and L4), Sagrada. Last name (L2 and L5), Marina and Glorias (L1).

The closest stations to Bogatell Beach are Ciutadella/Vila Olímpica, Bogatell, Llacuna and Poblenou on line L4. In any case, users are advised to follow the instructions of staff and public address and alarm systems.

Regarding the regular bus service, in the afternoon and evening the TMB will strengthen the service of the lines providing access to the Bogatell area with vehicles of greater capacity or an additional vehicle. The main lines leading to Bogatell Beach are: H16, V23, V25, V27, 6 and 59. Strengthening will be applied depending on the demand that may arise.

Regarding bicycle mobility, the America’s Cup mobility arrangement also included the creation of secure parking for bicycles and VMPs in closed areas, four differentiated spaces of approximately 100 square meters each and a capacity of 100 cars each. . They are located around Plaza del Mar, around the Biomedical Research Center, around the Olympic Port and in the Bogatell Beach area.

The City Guard will establish safe routes that will facilitate the orderly and safe exit of people when using public transport to prevent sexist and LGBTI-phobic violence.

Regarding measures affecting mobility, and due to the expectation that due to the large number of public at the beginning or end of the event there will be a road encroachment on Avenue Litoral, vehicle traffic will be prohibited from eight o’clock. from noon to midnight on Avenida Litoral from Arquitecto Sert to Jonquera.
