Evo Morales threatened to blockade Bolivia if the prosecutor’s office caught him

Leaders of social organizations defending Morales also warned today that if an arrest warrant was issued, they would launch a national road blockade.

“The Unity Pact and other social organizations are not making a mistake in going into a big mobilization and they respect us, so the government has an obligation to respect the Bolivian people,” the former president said.

According to the complaint filed with the Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office, Morales may have committed the crimes of “human trafficking” and “rape” against a minor, with whom he allegedly had a child.

The former ruler was due to testify a day earlier before the prosecutor’s office of the southern region of Tarija, where the events allegedly took place, however he did not arrive and a legal excuse was presented by his defence.

Prosecutor Sandra Gutiérrez announced that an arrest warrant would be issued against Morales to force him to testify in Tarija, although he has not yet executed it.

In view of the announcement, Ponciano Santos, leader of the ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) but close to Morales, said today that he is under permanent surveillance. “If they touch Ivo, they touch people,” he said.

Arrest warrant against Morales

Since the prosecutor’s office warned him with an arrest warrant, Morales has not left Cochabamba and his followers have monitored the evacuation in the Tropic region, his political and union stronghold, and the headquarters of six coca cartels. The former President is a leader.

“Possibly, illegally and unjustly, they may detain me, but they will never detain you. Possibly they have plans against our lives, but the process of change will never end,” Morales said.

Apart from this, the former ruler of Bolivia said that ‘Decolonization Day’ is celebrated in Bolivia on October 12 because the countries of America have freed themselves from colonialism for decades.

He insisted, “This is not a day of advent of race or civilization, this is a day of invasion, intervention and destruction for the American people.”

He expressed that with “the Spanish conquest” also came imperialism and rightism, and affirmed that President Luis Arce is “an ally of the empire.”

Arce and Morales have been estranged since late 2021 over differences in state administration, deepened by the need to renew the national leadership of MAS and elect a candidate for the 2025 general elections.
