Cancer (UICC).

FECMA Manifesto

Inequalities cost lives, and public health systems must therefore address the causes of disparities in cancer care. On World Cancer Day, we champion the importance and effectiveness of early cancer detection campaigns and work to ensure that all people, no matter where they live and without any discrimination, have access to screening tests and the best diagnostic methods, the most effective methods treatment, innovative medicines and the fight against cancer.

People’s future will be fairer when they have free access to health services, when they can access the diagnosis, treatment and care that can save their lives.

We know that not all cancers are preventable, but some can be prevented through a healthy lifestyle. The World Health Organization tells us that some of the most common cancers can be prevented by living a life free of tobacco, alcohol and drugs, eating a healthy diet, protecting yourself from exposure to the sun and other carcinogens or substances, and engaging in physical activity. daily. For this reason, we believe that health authorities must develop inclusive public health policies, create an enabling environment for populations to adopt healthy lifestyles, create innovative strategies to address inequalities, and invest in creating a world free of cancer.

We are mindful of the importance of early detection because while not all cancers present early, some do provide warning. Rapid action facilitates treatment, avoids some interventions, improves survival rates and provides a higher quality of life.

We recognize that cancer is a serious disease and that each year more than 14 million new cases are diagnosed worldwide and that the disease causes 9.6 million deaths. The public must treat it as such, and health authorities must treat it with the importance it deserves.

The association movement of women affected by breast cancer in all its stages, of which our Spanish Federation of Breast Cancer (FECMA) is an active participant, is jointly committed to these ideas and will continue to work to ensure that cancer becomes a priority on the global agenda. maintain special attention to cases of metastasis in oncology.

The Spanish Federation of Breast Cancer (FECMA) represents more than 45,300 women suffering from this pathology, grouped in 48 associations throughout Spain. As a non-profit organization, it has served a group of women affected by breast cancer since its inception in 2000.
