Federation reduces partial closure of Metropolitano to one match due to incidents with Atlético Madrid – Real Madrid

The competition committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has reduced the partial closure of the southern part of the Metropolitano stadium from three matches to one after the body imposed this sanction for incidents that occurred during the Atlético Madrid-Real Madrid match in the past September 29. The original penalty was three games, but an appeal by the club, chaired by Enrique Cerezo, reduced the amount.

The mattress team argued in a statement that the punishment was “disproportionate”, an argument the RFEF Committee decided to partially uphold, ABC reports. When the sanctions against Leganés come into force this Sunday, the closure will affect part of the lower south lower stand, sectors 127 to 133. This is the place where objects were thrown and insults were made to the area where the Real Madrid goalkeeper was located. Thibaut Courtois. In addition to the partial closure of one match, the red and white team faces a financial fine of 3,000 euros.

Moreover, Atlético Madrid are immersed in another sanctions process for the same events. The Anti-Violence Commission of the Supreme Sports Council (CSD) proposed a complete closure of the Metropolitan Stadium for 15 days and a fine of 65,000 euros.

A sanction that the club also appealed, in this case to the Appeal Committee, again considering it “disproportionate.” The organization believes that “the unacceptable behavior of a few cannot result in such excessive punishment for the vast majority who have committed no wrongdoing.” The club expelled four members involved in violent incidents during which players coached by Diego Pablo Simeone tried to talk to the ultras (eventually applauding them at the end of the derby).
