Slovakia’s Prime Minister, Robert Fico, will continue his recovery at his home in Bratislava, where he was transferred on Thursday afternoon from the Banská Bystrica Hospital, where he was admitted after being shot on May 15, the center reported this Friday.
“The prime minister is currently under home care,” the F.D.Roosevelt University Hospital in Banska Bystrica said on the social network Facebook.
Fico lives in the Kalvariá neighbourhood, near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is part of the historic centre of Bratislava.
The prime minister, who heads the populist social democratic party Smer, was transferred by medical helicopter from a hospital in Banska Bystrica (centre of the country), 200 kilometres west, to the capital.
According to doctors, Fico’s own wish has come true, having started eating on Wednesday and being in a critical condition a few days ago after a bullet pierced his small intestine, which was perforated in five places. The director of the health center, Miriam Lapunnikova, has indicated that the patient awaits “long rehabilitation”.
The attacker, a 71-year-old man with a pacifist past and who disagreed with the executive’s measures, shot the politician with a 9-caliber CZ 75 pistol after a cabinet meeting in the town of Handlova in central Slovakia last week. 15.
