Flu vaccination without an appointment on an unusual day this Saturday at the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Hospital

The Department of Health of the Government of Aragon has organized a walk-in flu vaccination day this Saturday, November 30, for the entire target population, that is, those for whom vaccination is recommended in order to avoid health complications.

The vaccine is administered at the Nuestra Señora de Gracia hospital in Zaragoza from 9:00 to 19:00. The medical center, popularly known as the Provincial Hospital, is located on Ramon y Cajal Street.

The General Directorate of Public Health and Primary Health Care management jointly organized this special day to facilitate access to the system. Citizens from anywhere in the capital can come to the health center located in the city center, even if they belong to health centers in other health areas, and from all over Aragon if they are located in Zaragoza.

To receive the vaccination, you must present a medical card or DPR. If neither of these two documents is available, the regional identification code must be provided. This is the number that begins with the abbreviation AR, followed by several numbers, and is located on the medical record. In the case of children, this number is indicated in the letter regarding the heel test, which is carried out on all newborns in Aragon.

If for any reason none of these documents are available, a Vaccine Administration Form will be completed as this information must be included in the medical record.

TARGET POPULATION

The flu vaccination campaign is broadly targeting the same groups as last year, which includes everyone over 60, smokers, children aged 6 to 59 months, people living with people who are highly immunosuppressed, and everyone those who pose a greater risk of complications or serious illness if they suffer from these infections.

Primary health care manager Pilar Borraz emphasized that this measure is being implemented to facilitate access to the system for those who, due to certain circumstances, could not do so previously. Thanks to the collaboration of nursing staff, a device was created for this purpose.

Director General of the Public Health Directorate Nuria Gayan emphasizes the importance of vaccination for all risk groups to protect their health and pays special attention to the youngest. “Children under 5 years of age are at greatest risk for serious complications from influenza, even if they have no previous health problems.”

Gayan notes that this is the age segment with the highest incidence of influenza and that vaccinating children against the disease is recommended by the World Health Organization and more than 70 countries. The expert adds that the main carriers of influenza in society are usually young children, as they have a higher viral load. Vaccination helps break the chain of transmission, protecting not only them, but also their families and communities.

In addition, friends of children who are part of the groups recommended for flu vaccination can take advantage of this opportunity and get vaccinated on the same Saturday, November 30, at the Regional Hospital.
