Gavi is halfway to recovery: he will not start the season

One of the biggest setbacks for FC Barcelona this season was the serious injury that Gavi received while playing for the Spanish national team on November 19 in a European Championship qualifying match against Georgia. The medical report was as devastating as it was heartbreaking: Gavi suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated lateral meniscus injury. Although the time of absence was not officially specified, according to the first estimates, the season was already declared lost, already setting the horizon for the next one.

The truth is Can Barça has already come to terms with the idea that they will start next year without Gavi’s presence.

And the club makes it clear that A torn cruciate ligament lasts between 7 and 9 months, but when you add a torn meniscus, we have to extend it by another two or three months, so at best we end up with eleven or twelve months off the playing field.

The young talent from Seville, who will soon be six months old, is now “50%”, meaning halfway to recovery. There is still a long way to go to reach 100%, although for now progress is being made without any setbacks and with a very good feeling.

The club are also clear that once he is released, he will need almost a month to regain fitness as he has not played for a year.. Thus, a major challenge for the club’s medical services is to ensure that Gavi is fully operational from January 2025.

Gavi’s injury continues to worry Barcelona: His defeat is still one of the most important factors explaining the team’s fiasco this season, which will end with empty pockets and nothing to add to the record. Their fighting spirit, drive, determination and self-sacrifice became one of the hallmarks of this Barca team, which also infected the rest of their teammates.

The Blaugrana management suspects that poor management by the national team’s doctors on that fateful day contributed to the severity of the injury. According to them, The first injury was a torn ligament, but the doctor forced him to continue playing, which caused a torn meniscus. To put it simply, if Gavi hadn’t continued, it would have been a 9-month break, so he could have been available in pre-season.. Now we will have to wait two to three months for a tear associated with the outer meniscus.
