GE HealthCare has introduced new artificial intelligence (AI) software to deliver diagnostic-quality cardiac images using a wireless, portable ultrasound system, expanding access to cardiac care and facilitating faster, more accurate assessments for healthcare providers. The company demonstrated this innovation at the 46th Congress of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (SEMERGEN).
At this congress, the message of the importance of ultrasound in the diagnosis and follow-up of primary care patients was repeated in a workshop on “The Role of Clinical Ultrasound in Acute Abdominal Pain,” which was coordinated by physicians. Ana Segura Grau And Ines Salcedofrom the SEMERGEN Ultrasound Working Group.
According to Dr. Ana Segura, “It is very important to demonstrate the importance of ultrasound in the hands of a family doctor. This tool not only provides additional motivation to the clinician, but also enhances physical examination capabilities, advances progress in diagnosis and patient monitoring, and improves resolution, often avoiding unnecessary patient movement.”
. Likewise, Dr. Segura noted that: “This system’s ability to provide real-time guidance and optimal imaging represents a significant change in daily practice, allowing for faster and more accurate diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.”.GE HealthCare’s Commitment to Precision Care
In addition to family and community medicine specialists, residents who attended this scientific event were also able to learn and test all the functions of this pocket-sized ultrasound system in a session designed for this purpose.
Dr. Ines Salcedo emphasized that “This technology allows primary care physicians to use the tool in the medical center, in any urgent care center and at home. This allows for earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment.”.
GE HealthCare’s new portable ultrasound model provides healthcare providers with real-time visual guidance to determine transducer movements and includes a quality meter to ensure the best images are obtained. In addition, the technology provides high levels of image depth, resolution and sensitivity; Calculates automatic left ventricular ejection fraction based on one or more images and automatically saves an image loop when a quality threshold is reached; and allows you to select and save the best cycle of images for each shot.
All these characteristics allow for high-quality ultrasound and also contribute to the early detection of cardiovascular diseases, which are currently the leading cause of death worldwide. Its prevalence is expected to continue to rise as people live longer and the population increases.1
New challenges of digitalization and artificial intelligence in medicine
The 46th Congress of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (SEMERGEN), which took place at the Bilbao Exhibition Center (BEC) in Baracaldo, under the motto “We shape ourselves with enthusiasm”brought together more than 5,000 family doctors, becoming the most important event in the medical field in all of Spain.
During the days when this congress was extended, participants were able to learn about new issues related to digitalization and artificial intelligence in medicine, as well as receive updated information on scientific and technological developments in the field of family and community medicine.
With this new software, the company is moving forward to improve accuracy of care and adds a new innovation to the approximately 60 AI-enabled medical device approvals that GE HealthCare has in the United States. Of these, approximately 30 are ultrasound innovations based on artificial intelligence.
