The Xbox version of Death Stranding Director’s Cut is now available, and the channel TheBitsAnalyst I didn’t miss the opportunity to compare the new version of the game with the version for PlayStation 5. This is especially interesting because as this is the first time we’ve seen the Decima Engine in action on Xbox systems.
If you’re expecting to find significant differences between the Xbox Series X version and the PS5 version, you’ll be disappointed. In terms of performance, both versions experience drops in quality mode in very similar situations. The Xbox Series S version has some visual shortcuts. The quality of the landscape and water is noticeably lower, and the quality of shadows, ambient occlusion and post-processing effects is also reduced, although it works well.
Despite these cuts, the Xbox versions also include an ultrawide mode, which could be good news for those looking for a more immersive experience. According to the analysis, on Series S it was possible to increase the resolution to 1260p or even 1440p in quality mode, which suggests that the game was well optimized for the console.
Interestingly, although there is no dedicated patch for Death Stranding Director’s Cut on PS5 Pro, the game still takes advantage of the mid-gen hardware thanks to the Game Boost feature. This guarantees a near-constant 2160p/60fps resolution. The Xbox version of Death Stranding Director’s Cut is a good option for those who want to play the game on a Microsoft console.
