In the digital age, communication has transformed exponentially. From handwritten letters to instant video calls, technology has impacted the way we communicate with the world. In this context, WhatsApp has become an indispensable tool for personal and professional communication. WhatsApp, launched in 2009, began as a simple instant messaging app. Over the years, the platform has continually evolved, incorporating new features that have made it a veritable Swiss Army Knife of communication.
In the beginning, WhatsApp was limited to sending text messages, photos and voice notes. Gradually, the platform included new features such as video calls, voice calls, temporary states, GIFs, stickers, and the ability to share files of various formats. The introduction of chat groups has made it easier to communicate between groups of friends, family or colleagues. The creation of mailing lists made it possible to send messages to a group of people without having to create a group.
WhatsApp recently took another step in its development by introducing “Word mode” in the web version. This new feature allows users to format the text of their messages in a similar way to how they would be formatted in a word processor.
WhatsApp’s “Word Mode” allows you to apply different formats to text, such as bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace, bullets, enumerations, and code. These formatting options may be useful for:
It’s very easy to use. To apply the format to text, you just need to write some code before and after the text.
Block quote: This format allows you to highlight a piece of text, such as a quote. Symbol used > (more), then a space, and then write the text you want to quote.
Aligned code: This format is used to display program code or any other text that you want to keep on a single line. Symbol used ` (apostrophe) before and after the code.
Italics: This format allows you to highlight words or phrases. Symbol used _ (underline) before and after the text you want to italicize.
Bold font: This format allows you to highlight words or phrases to make them appear thicker. The *** (asterisk) symbol is used before and after the text you want to make bold.
Numbered lists: This format allows you to create ordered lists with numbers. You write the number 1, then a period, and then the first element of the list. This process is repeated for each element of the list.
Monospace: This format is used to display fixed-width text, similar to what you see on a typewriter. Symbol used “` (three quotes) before and after the text you want to place in monospace format.
Strikethrough: This format allows you to cross out words or phrases to indicate that they are no longer valid or complete. Symbol used ~ (slant) before and after the text you want to strike out.
Bullets: This format allows you to create lists without numbering. Symbol used – (script) or . (period), then a space, and then enter the text of the list item.
It’s important to note that WhatsApp’s evolution doesn’t stop there. The platform continues to work on new features that will make it even more useful and versatile. Some of the features expected in the future include:
Without a doubt, WhatsApp will continue to be the main communication tool in the future. Constant development makes it a platform adaptable to the changing needs of users.
