From Software boss Hidetaka Miyazaki has spoken about the possibility of a Bloodborne remake and the benefits that waiting for new hardware will have when revisiting the PlayStation 4 classic.
“We really like this game, as do our fans,” Miyazaki told us when asked about the possibility of a Bloodborne remake. “I’m really happy to see that so many people are still so passionate about it.”
But does a remake need to benefit from new hardware to make its release worthwhile? For example, Demon’s Souls was remade as a launch game for PlayStation 5 after originally releasing on PlayStation 3, making the remake more meaningful.
“I think having new equipment definitely adds value to these remakes,” says Miyazaki. “The things you couldn’t achieve on previous generations of hardware, the ways in which you couldn’t display specific expressions…new hardware sometimes makes it possible.”
“However, I wouldn’t say that’s all,” he continues. “I think from a user perspective, modern hardware allows more players to enjoy these games. Ultimately it’s a simple reason, but as a gamer I think accessibility is important. I think this might be the main reason to port an old game to a new platform.
Regardless of whether a Bloodborne remake ultimately comes out, whether it’s for PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 6, Miyazaki says he’s “very happy” to see so many fans passionately asking for a remake of his game.
The creative apologized for not being able to say anything more specific about the remake of the PlayStation 4 exclusive game, but said he was “thrilled” by the response it continues to generate.
“I’m really happy to see that this game has created so many memories for both me and the team that worked on it,” he explains. “And when we see these passionate voices in the community, it certainly excites us, we feel very lucky to have this and these memories.”
Currently, From Software is still busy developing the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring, which Miyazaki called the biggest one his company has ever created.
Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 21.
