The country’s three most important telecommunications companies have signed an agreement to share spectrum in their 700 MHz band.
The telecommunications industry is the key to the proper development of the country. Having 5G in all parts of the country is important, but some areas are being left behind, especially rural areas. Luckily for them, MASORANGE, Telefonica and Vodafone have signed a triple deal that will help promote 5G in rural Spain..
Motivated by the Único Redes Activas program
According to Expansión, the agreement consists of Mutualization of the 700 MHz band spectrum between three companies. In this way, they will share the spectrum to develop the network and make it faster and more extensive.
It was possible thanks to the Único Redes Activas program. This program offers subsidies for communities with 10,000 or fewer inhabitants where 5G has been deployed. Total will be distributed 544 million euros adding all the provinces in which it operates. To receive the subsidy, telecommunications companies must achieve speeds of at least 100 Mbps. Each province can have one winner, but also two: the first place winner will receive 75% of the amount, and the second place winner will receive the remaining 25%.
In some cases, telecommunications companies are not interested in implementing their network infrastructure in several municipalities because it is not cost-effective. These smaller businesses do not have a large clientele, so subsidies encourage the creation of infrastructure. This competition will cover 90% of 5G equipment deployment.. The winning operator will receive a generous subsidy, but others will also benefit from spectrum sharing.
Definitely, Residents of these cities will have more opportunities to enter into contractsbut also Better conditions. Spectrum pooling will lead to increased network capabilities on the part of operators, with some receiving subsidies and all three being able to share spectrum.
What happens to the fiber?
The expansion of telecommunications affects not only mobile networks, but also fiber optics. The Único program takes this field into account, subsidizing its deployment with €134 million., of which Avatel will take a little less than half – 62 million. Adamo and Orange follow later.
