Banco Santander warned on Tuesday that it had been “unauthorisedly accessed” to a database containing information clients in Spain, Chile and Uruguayand all employees and former employees of the group.
The bank assured LA RAZON that this is a privacy issue, not a security issue, as the data that was “hacked” only shows the age, name or address of the affected customers and employees. However, this information prevents cybercriminals from withdrawing money or performing any other banking transactions
.“The database contains no information about transactions, no credentials, no Internet banking passwords that allow you to work with the bank. lToSantander’s operations and systems are unaffected and customers can continue to operate safely.“Says Banco Santander in information sent to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). But how can these people know if their data has been compromised?
In a statement, the financial institution explained that it was “proactively communicating with directly affected customers and employees.” In this sense, Banco Santander told the newspaper that all employees received the message via internal company email. For their part, customers were sent a personalized message notifying them that this data had been compromised.
Faced with this scenario, the financial institution, chaired by Ana Botín, “immediately” took measures to manage it, such as Block database access and strengthen fraud prevention to protect customers.
.For now, Banco Santander has assured that ““There is no data on affected customers in other markets and company enterprises.”.
