How to fix Wi-Fi speed problems at home with something you probably forgot in the closet

Wi-Fi signal quality is very important for countless everyday activities, such as working or simply browsing the Internet. But what happens when we encounter speed problems? There is simple and inexpensive advice that will solve this situation without contacting technicians or replacement speed: Reuse your old router.

Usually, when changing an Internet provider or purchasing a new router model from our company, people forget about the old equipment. Many people accumulate these devices at home without knowing what to do with them. Few people think about the fact that these old routers can be reused

improve your internet connection without having to incur additional costs.

The key to optimizing our connection using an old router is to configure it as additional access point. This is achieved by connecting both routers – new and old – with an Ethernet cable. In this way, the old router acts as a network extender, allowing you to connect various devices both wirelessly and via cable.

To set up your old router as an access point, it is important to follow these steps: First, we assign the secondary router the same Wi-Fi network name and password as the primary router. Next, you need to disable the DHCP server on the LAN section of the old router to avoid IP address conflicts. If the primary router has the address 192.168.1.1, we will assign the address 192.168.1.2 to the secondary router. It is advisable to configure channels other than the main router to minimize interference.

Can also be used as a Wi-Fi repeater.

Another option is to use your old router as a Wi-Fi repeater. This method depends on whether your router supports repeater mode, which not all routers do. If it’s compatible, the process is similar to setting it up as an access point, except that it connects via Wi-Fi to your main router. To do this, you must keep the same network name and password, and set the IP address within the range of the main router to ensure uninterrupted communication.

While the process for performing both tricks is simple, it’s worth checking the compatibility of your secondary router. Additionally, technical limitations such as the speed of the Ethernet ports and the device’s dual-band support must be taken into account as these may impact overall performance.
