“I hate them with all my soul.” He laughed unabashedly at the games of his time and now he’s back. Analysis of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered – Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 generation will remain in our memories for many reasons, but also because it is one of the most irreverent our medium will ever see. And I say this with complete confidence, because today we see every day how even the managers themselves claim that production must now be safe and profitable. Few people in their right mind would bet on such works as Shadows of the Damnedthe madness that united Suda 51, Shinji Mikami and Akira Yamaoka under production, which was not afraid of anything.

Now it’s time to talk about it again, because it has brought us a new edition: Hella Remastered. This is not the same guy remastering What else he will say, that’s for sure. The original Xbox 360 and PS3 game has been taken and remastered almost exactly as it was, with corresponding improvements in resolution and frame rate To 4K and 60 images per second. On top of this, an additional New Game+ mode has been added so you can continue killing demons after finishing the game, but aside from a slight interface change, don’t expect quality of life options and other types of upgrades; especially graphic remodeling. This is the most classic and basic remastering.

A typical option that in the PC world is done so automatically that there is no point in removing it. However, here it is done for a very logical reason: It never came out on PC. Thus, for the first time, you can enjoy Grasshopper on computers without resorting to emulation. So little news, what’s left? It might be interesting to see how this one has aged. cult classic.

And in this sense, I have an ambiguous opinion. Game mess with a script so bad and self-aware that it accomplishes its purpose: to make you laugh. The game constantly pokes fun at video game conventions such as puzzles, checkpoints, or health bars. Since it doesn’t make sense, he tries to explain everything in the demonic world in a way that makes it even less clear until you can’t do anything but smile. You are in hell collect strawberries as keys to give to the baby gate, collect gems that improve your abilities and alcohol that restores your life.

Road to Hell

In short, Shadows of the Damned. He has no complexes. Neither is playable, and that’s okay. If he has to create huge weaknesses in his enemies, he wears it with pride. Same with his puzzles or system light and darkness which is designed to add a little more shine, or better yet, to its levels. But overall, it really was a game that couldn’t compete with the best shooters of the time, much less the modern ones.

Because yes, Shadows of the Damned has fair control and The gunplay could have been improved. This remaster would benefit from an overhaul of the controls to make them more modern and natural, as well as improvements to the aiming system and camera. However, Grasshopper wanted nothing more than to bring original work. the way it was intended and this is worthy of respect. It’s still a fun game that arguably benefits the experience more from its shameless set than from the perfection of its mechanics.

And since its appearance, Shadows of the Damned have already filled the screen blood, insults and demons. Now that the film is shot in ultra-high definition, you can see the similarities better Garcia Hotspur with a young Benicio del Toro, who will have to cross the gates of hell itself to save his beloved Paula, who has been kidnapped by a demon named Fleming. The game exudes style, from the very beginning after the prologue with its amazing menu to the crazy camera shots.

And guess what? Although no, this is not the best shooter in history, the creativity of its developers is visible beyond the bounds pure charisma. While the game today feels overly controlled, some stages are well designed, and yes, Garcia hates “fucking puzzles”, but the creators don’t do that and they bring the combat to life well. Fighting which like I said may not have the best sense of control, but they are well measured because they know how to be more than just a killer, being able to use an alternate shot on some enemies, the environment, knowing when to change weapons and dominating their rhythm and recharging. Additionally, the final bosses are better developed than they appear and require evasive skill to eliminate a weak point.

Come on, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered is fun if you know what it’s about, just as it was when it was released. Besides the fact that you won’t find many similar current products even remotely, it was worth transferring this work to new consoles so that it would not sink into oblivion, and even more so on computers that have never done this. So this is going to be hell eternal.

Returning to Shadows of the Damned with this remastering speaks not only to the fact that Grasshopper was several years in the making, but also to the fact that, in its day, it wasn’t the most polished shooter of the generation. But it lacks subtlety, but gains charisma through its eccentric vision of hell, characters and dialogue so absurd you can’t help but smile. Hella Remastered is a re-release of the classic game that focuses on improving the resolution and frame rate without any modification or retouching of the original work, with the exception of the New Game+ mode. The best news is that the company is releasing a PC version that never made it to stores.
