Israel bombs Rafah refugee camp again, killing at least seven

Israeli forces have again bombed a refugee camp in the Tal al Sultan neighborhood, located in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, this morning, killing at least seven people, according to Europa Press. The bombings come just 24 hours after another Israeli attack that killed at least 45 people, suffocated by bombs and burned to death in the tents they had taken refuge in, a massacre that shocked the world.

Seven Palestinians were killed when a shell hit their tent at the Tal al-Sultan displaced persons camp, northwest of Rafah, where thousands are seeking refuge after fleeing Israeli violence, Anadolu news agency reported.

Israel also attacked a residential neighborhood and the city’s Indonesian hospital last night. According to journalists from the Qatari channel Al Jazeera, patients and medical staff are trapped in the clinic and ambulances cannot reach the bombed area, where another fire has broken out.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has reported that some of its staff have been “blockaded in the patient stabilization center of Tal al Sultan” after “a night of continuous explosions in Rafah”. Martina Marchio, MSF medical coordinator in Gaza, says that since the Israeli attack the previous day, there have been attacks all night “near the center of Tal al Sultan, where we treated the wounded all day yesterday”. Marchio says, “Workers who should have finished their shifts have not been allowed to leave, while those who should have started working this morning had to give up doing so because of the fighting,” while on behalf of the organization they demand an “immediate ceasefire.”

Rafah, where more than one million displaced people are overcrowded and without sanitation services or drinking water, remains the focus of Israeli attacks despite international condemnation and an “urgent” order from the International Court of Justice issued last Friday to halt operations in the area.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the deaths of civilians in Monday’s attack was a “tragic accident” and assured that the army was investigating the case.
