Israel says it has killed several Hezbollah commanders in recent bombings
The Israeli military has claimed to have killed several commanders of the Lebanese group Hezbollah in a series of air strikes in the past 24 hours, a day after carrying out an operation with 100 aircraft against southern Lebanon.
The army’s chief spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said in a press conference that “more than 50 terrorists, including six commanders, were killed” in the operation.
“This is a crushing blow to Hezbollah. We can see this in the fighting in the south,” the spokesman said. In a statement, Israeli forces identified six commanders, including a senior officer of the elite force (Radwan) and several members of the Lebanese group’s Southern Front.
Earlier yesterday the Israeli military reported that its air force had launched a “sweeping operation” in southern Lebanon against more than 120 Hezbollah “terrorist targets” in an hour.
These targets belonged to various units of the Lebanese organization, including its elite forces, its missile unit and its intelligence directorate, among others.
According to Lebanese officials, Israeli attacks have killed more than 2,000 people and forced one million to flee. On the Israeli side, eleven Israeli soldiers have been killed in fighting with Hezbollah, according to the military.
