It’s 2024 and Bang & Olufsen is selling a CD player. The one that costs $55,000.

  • This is a 1990s model that has been restored by the manufacturer.

If you have $55,000 left and are a music lover, Bang & Olufsen has an offer for you: CD player in the form of a tower, called Beosystem 9000c. We have before us a remarkable – and clearly exclusive – device that boasts at least two very special characteristics.

First up, the Danish audio company introduces us to a new CD playback device in the age of streaming, when almost everyone listens to music through platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. Secondly, this is not a completely new device, but rather entertainment.

Really vintage device

The Beosystem 9000c design first came to market in the 1990s. Until this point, most players. They hid the notes inside. Bang & Olufsen wanted to change this by releasing a product that could offer what they call a combination of art and engineering.

According to Fast Company, designer David Lewis was inspired by a British record store to give life to his creation, a creation that, by the way, had features such as creating playlists. Years have passed and the Beosystem 9000 has been discontinued, but Bang & Olufsen has just revived it in a very special way.

Through its Recreated Classics program, the firm pursued several original devices that were still on the market, going to stores and auctions to “rebuild them from scratch” He then took it upon himself to transport them to his factory in Denmark to prepare 200 fully restored classics.

The tasks, they explain, involved completely disassembling each piece of equipment, inspecting, cleaning and repairing each component. Elements such as laser readers, stand and glass cover were also replaced. The exterior, in turn, was repainted and the aluminum restored.

Beosystem 9000c is a more modern device than the original. It has integration with Beoconnect Encore which allows you to connect to Beolab 28 speakers included, also from the brand. The equipment is also compatible with a mobile application that allows you to remotely launch and control playback of six discs.
