We’ve been hearing rumors for months that Samsung is working on a smart ring to complement its consumer and healthcare division, a device for the healthcare ecosystem in which watches and mobile phones will be the protagonists. I compared it to the measurements the Google Nest Hub 2 and Amazfit GTR 4 gave me, and the Samsung ring was more in line. Moreover, without even having to doubt whether to wear it at night or not, I could be sure that the measurements would be continuous, not even a single night without having to charge the device.

but the ring It is also worn during training.. In my case, I do three sports a day: 30 minutes on the treadmill, 40 minutes on the stationary bike, and about 20 minutes of strength training. In the first two, it is logical to think that it is not necessary to remove the ring, since these are not activities in which the hands are of great importance. However, in bodybuilding exercises we may think so.

In my case this was not the case because I’ve always trained with gloves on and since the ring is underneath, as you can see in the video, it’s quite comfortable to wear. when using exercise machines or lifting dumbbells. Of course, I did the test without gloves, in which case it was more uncomfortable for me, and I could very easily scratch the ring.

Limited Features

One of the disadvantages that can be attributed to this type of ring is that the functions for which it is intended are few. He makes them very well, but they are few. The most remarkable thing is undoubtedly the ability to measure sleep, even if we don’t want to wear a watch on our wrist, which many people hate. This is not the case in my case as I use it as an alarm clock due to the vibration it can cause without waking up my partner.

In the case of a ring we don’t have this function because no vibration system. Something similar happens with heart rate or stress measurement, which is more precise than a watch, but allows for maximum accuracy. Moreover, although they have automatic heart rate detection in two activities: running and walking, continuous detection needs to be triggered when we are going to do any other sport from the application itself.

It’s true that Samsung has developed additional functions for the ringfor example, the ability to take a photo using the ring as a trigger, or turn off an alarm, all using gestures. The problem is that it’s only compatible with new foldables for now, and our test was conducted on a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
