Joe Biden resigns, live | Kamala Harris confirms she will run for president: “My intention is to win this nomination” | USA Elections

Obama on Biden: “Joe never backs down from a fight. This is certainly one of the hardest decisions of your life.”

Former President Barack Obama has written a message for the United States of America as well as for me, a dear friend and partner. Today we are reminded once again that he is a patriot of the highest order.”

In the rest of his very long letter, Obama discusses Biden’s qualities and their long friendship. However, for the time being he does not express his support for Kamala Harris or any specific candidate, but limits himself to saying that the Democrats will cross “uncharted waters”, although he has “confidence in a process in which an excellent candidate will emerge.”

Obama began his message published on the Medium platform by saying, “16 years ago, when I began my search for a vice president, I learned about Joe’s extraordinary career in public service.” “But what I admired even more was his character: his deep empathy and hard-won resilience; his fundamental decency and his firm belief that everyone matters,” the former president adds.

“Since taking office, President Biden has demonstrated that character again and again. He helped end the pandemic, created millions of jobs, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, passed the first major gun safety law in 30 years, made the largest investment in history to address climate change, and fought to ensure workers’ right to organize with fair pay and benefits. Internationally, he restored America’s standing in the world, revitalized NATO, and united the world against Russian aggression in Ukraine. More than that, President Biden has led us away from the four years of chaos, dishonesty, and division that characterized Donald Trump’s administration. Through his policies and example, Joe has reminded us who we are at our best: a country committed to age-old values like trust and honesty, kindness, and hard work; a country that believes in democracy, the rule of law, and accountability; A country that insists that everyone, no matter who they are, has the right to express themselves and deserves a chance to live a better life,” he says.

“This outstanding record gives President Biden every right to run for re-election and finish the work he started,” Obama says. “Joe understands better than anyone what’s at stake in this election: how everything he has fought for all his life, and everything the Democratic Party stands for, will be at risk if we allow Donald Trump to return to the White House and we give Republicans control of Congress.”

“I also know that Joe has never backed down from a fight. For him, looking out at the political landscape and deciding that he must pass the torch to a new candidate is certainly one of the hardest things of his life,” the former president says. “But I know I would not make this decision if I did not believe it was best for America. “It is a testament to Joe Biden’s love for his country and a historic example of a true public servant who, once again, puts the interests of the American people ahead of his own and future generations of leaders would do well to follow.”

“In the days ahead, we will be sailing uncharted waters,” Obama acknowledges. “But I have extraordinary confidence that our party’s leaders will be able to create a process that will produce an outstanding candidate. I believe Joe Biden’s vision of a liberal, prosperous, and united America that offers opportunity to all will be fully present at the Democratic Convention in August. And I hope each of us is ready to carry that message of hope and progress into November and beyond.”

“For now, Michelle and I,” he writes on behalf of his wife and himself, “just want to express our love and gratitude to Joe and Jill for guiding us so skillfully and bravely through these dangerous times, and for their commitment to the ideals of freedom and equality on which this country was founded.”
