To celebrate graduation Dark matterApple TV+’s newest series based on the bestselling book of the same name, we spoke with the cast and creators of this tense, reality-bending thriller.
Based on the blockbuster novel by New York Times bestselling author Blake Crouch, hailed as one of the best science fiction novels of the decade, Dark Matter is a story of the road less taken. The series follows Jason Dessen (played by Edgerton), a physicist, professor, and family man who, while walking home through the streets of Chicago one night, is kidnapped into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly becomes a nightmare as he tries to return to his reality amidst the crazy landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of reality, he embarks on a harrowing journey to return to his true family and save them from the most terrifying and invincible enemy imaginable: himself.
In conversation with Edgerton, Braga and Connolly, we talk about the appeal of Crouch’s script and book, the unique acting challenges of playing multiple versions of the same characters and acting with someone who does, and why the best non-fiction fiction in the stories there is more at stake than just the “gimmick”, how they would handle the same scenarios if presented, and why the questions posed in the series have so many interpretations.
