While the Buffalo Bills will need a full team effort to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round, the team needs quarterback Josh Allen to rise to the occasion.
Allen’s game is extremely unpredictable, but he was on fire against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round. He completed 70 percent of his passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns, along with eight carries for 74 yards and a score. He earned a quarterback rating of 121.9.
On January 18, Bills forward Dion Dawkins was asked if he noticed anything special about Allen that day. Dawkins, who has been Allen’s teammate since the Bills drafted the quarterback in 2018, was defeated. “Yes,” he said with a smile.
“Josh is different (in his mind),” Dawkins explained. “Mentally he’s here. And whatever it is off the field, I think it helps him a lot.” While the three-time Pro Bowler didn’t mention Allen’s girlfriend Hailee Steinfeld by name, he credited the actress for keeping Allen busy.
“As much energy as he is off the football field right now, he’s doing everything he can to move forward. Josh comes into the building every day with a completely different energy…Josh is in a better place when he leaves the house. Whether it’s talking to his parents or talking to his girlfriend… it lifts his mood. “I love it and it flows into game days.”
Last year, Dawkins noted that there were times when Allen was “a little off,” but not this season. “Josh is in a good mood when he leaves everything he leaves behind… Whatever wonderful energy he has in him, it works.”
Allen and Steinfeld have kept a low profile since they first started dating in May. Although she avoids the jumbotron, the Oscar-nominated actress has attended nearly every Bills game this season, both home and away. Yes
During the longest strike by film and television actors, she spent most of the NFL season in Buffalo. Ahead of the Bills’ Week 4 game, she went shopping with Lavonne Allen, Josh’s mother, to buy some Bills gear. Shortly after, the couple made their first public appearance together at the Buffalo Sabers’ home opener at Keybank Stadium on October 12.
Last month, Steinfeld celebrated her 27th anniversary with Allen, which coincided with the Bills’ annual holiday party. Although Steinfeld missed the Bills’ regular season finale because she was performing at the Golden Globes, she returned to Buffalo for the Wild Card round.
While walking the awards ceremony’s red carpet, Steinfeld successfully dodged engagement rumors. To the question: “What is it about a sports man?” She replied: “Listen, what are we talking about? Come on.”
The Bills’ 20–17 win over the Chiefs in Week 14 was one of the rare games Steinfeld missed. While fans were hoping to see Steinfeld reunite with Taylor Swift, girlfriend of Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, she had a screening in Manhattan.
Steinfeld appeared in Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video in 2014. “I mean, Miss Swift calls you and you run to the phone,” Steinfeld recalled to People about the experience back in May.
“It was the coolest thing to be a part of her music video with so many incredibly talented, inspiring women… It was truly an honor to be a part of Taylor’s world and her vision. “I’m literally keeping an eye on her Eras tour dates, trying to figure out when I can do it.”
Back in 2016, Steinfeld told Seventeen magazine about her friendship with Swift: “I think people think we spend a lot more time together than we actually do! – She’s amazing though.
While both women likely won’t be sharing a room at Highmark Stadium since Swift will be cheering with the opposing team, perhaps they can catch up after the game. The Chiefs-Bills matchup begins at 6:30 pm ET on Sunday, January 21st.
