Health authorities Brazil the first case was identified Oropouche fever V Paraiba.

The patient is a 34-year-old man from the city of João Pessoa who developed symptoms characteristic of dengue fever after traveling to Pernambuco, where he became infected. This is therefore an imported case. Unlike Paraíba, Pernambuco has already registered cases in 10 municipalities.

After seeking medical attention, the diagnosis of Oropouche fever was confirmed by testing at the Central Public Health Laboratory of Paraiba (Lacén/PB).

In 2024, 7,044 cases of local transmission were confirmed in 16 states of Brazil.
