Kindle’s first color and family update

Amazon prematurely published (and then deleted) news in which it introduced a new Kindle family, which for the first time has a color model. It’s called Kindle Colorsoft and goes on sale October 30th for $279.99. The company also introduced a new Kindle Scribe with improved writing technology and artificial intelligence, a faster Kindle Paperwhite and a smaller entry-level Kindle. The announcement will be official in the next few hours and that is when we will update the news with prices in euros.

Kindle Colorsoft is “designed to deliver rich, paper-like colors,” and the company explains that it “uses an oxide back layer with customizable waveforms for fast performance and greater contrast in both color, white and black.” Its screen features an automatically adjustable front-light, allows you to enlarge images “without worrying about pixelation,” and choose between standard and vibrant color styles. The device has fast page changes, wireless charging, battery life of up to eight weeks, is waterproof and has a new light guide with nitride LEDs.

The Kindle Scribe update starts with a screen that now has white borders and a paper-like texture, so that writing on it feels closer to that of a real piece of paper. The panel supports 300 dpi resolution. For its part, the Premium Pencil promises to deliver the same feel as a real pen thanks to its weight and balance, while its new soft-tip eraser aims to resemble a pencil.

One of the main features of Kindle Scribe is the ability to take notes, an option enhanced with Active Canvas. This feature allows you to add notes directly to a book so that they become part of the book, meaning that the text remains visible even if you increase the font size, change the font style, or change the book’s layout. “Coming soon” can also be written on the side and hidden when completed. Additionally, Kindle Scribe includes artificial intelligence technology that lets you organize pages of notes into concise bullet points using a common handwriting font.

Finally, the new Kindle Paperwhite is billed as the “fastest ever” with faster scrolling and 25% faster page changes. The screen increases to 7 inches, making the device thinner and providing battery life of up to three months. The Kindle Paperwhite Standard Edition is waterproof and has 16GB of internal storage, while the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has 32GB of internal storage, optional wireless charging and auto-adjusting front lighting.

Pricing and availability of the new Kindle family:

  • Kindle is available starting at $109.99.
  • Kindle Paperwhite is available starting at $159.99.
  • Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is available starting at $199.99.
  • Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition goes on sale October 30th for $279.99.
  • Kindle Scribe goes on sale December 4th for $399.99.
