Kirin 9010: Huawei Pura70 Ultra chipset fails to beat mid-range SoC in performance tests

Huawei has returned to in-house development of Kirin chipsets with the new Pura70 series. The range is powered by the Kirin 9010 processor, while the Pura70 Ultra has already been benchmarked and its SoC has produced rather disappointing results.

Starting with Geekbench 6, the Kirin 9010 Pura70 Ultra scores 1,446 points in single-core mode and 4,524 points in multi-core mode. These numbers are, of course, much worse than current-generation chipsets like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300. However, unfortunately, they are also inferior to older flagship chipsets and even mid-range chipsets from the previous generation.

For example, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has average scores of 1,741 and 4,584 in Geekbench 6 single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. This chipset, albeit in 4G form, was used in the P60 series last year, which could indicate a generational decline in performance. Last year’s Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 in the Poco F5 (buy on Amazon) also scored 1687 and 4378 in these two tests.

Things get much worse when it comes to the GPU, with the Pura70 Ultra recording a 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited score of 1,531 and an AnTuTu GPU score of 195,380. In comparison, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone like the Xiaomi 12S Pro scores 2,740 and 479,604 scores in these two tests respectively. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 scored 1956 and 337915 points in these tests, which once again proves how far it lags behind the Kirin 9010.

Apparently, Huawei Pura70 Ultra will not be able to provide competitive performance in 2024. However, like previous devices in the series, it is positioned as a photography-focused flagship, and in this regard it seems to perform much better at a lower cost.
