Detecting lazy eye in children under 3 years of age is a real challenge for visual health professionals and a concern for parents. Lazy eye is a vision disorder that usually affects one eye. It is characterized by a difference in the prescription and vision of one eye in relation to the other, and sometimes a deviation or lack of alignment between them.
Early detection is paramount to the recovery of lazy vision and the success of its treatment and rehabilitation. We contacted Multiópticas Monreal’s optometry and contactology department and they told us that thanks to technological and professional advances, it is now possible to detect lazy eye at a surprisingly early age, and to tailor the appropriate treatment to each individual. In this case, the better the result and rehabilitation, the earlier the detection will occur.
At the same time, they recommend undergoing an examination starting in the first year of life to rule out “lazy eye” or any vision problems; and examination in the 2nd and 3rd years of life to ensure adequate visual development for subsequent schooling.
